Japanese Milk Bread

FOR THE STARTER
⅓ cup bread flour
½ cup whole milk
½ cup water

FOR THE DOUGH
5 cups bread flour
½ cup sugar
4 teaspoons active dry yeast
2 teaspoons salt
2 eggs
1 cup warm whole milk, plus extra for brushing on the unbaked loaf
1 stick unsalted butter, softened
